A boxlock double barrel combination gun made by W.B. Barratt in Burton on Trent circa 1850. Equipped with a Powells Patent ejector boxlock, elaborately engraved on all metal parts with a beautifully figured double damascus barrel. Bore if bright and clean on both sides with good rifling on the left hand barrel. Right hand barrel appears to be chambered for 20g shotgun, and the left hand barrel measures 36 cal, so perhaps meant for an odd antique caliber of centre-fire cartridge? The boxlock functions beautifully and locks up firmly. Both actions work well, however the rear trigger hits that little forward curl on the trigger guard so requires a bit of a harder pull to release the hammer. Could likely be fixed with a minor adjustment to the trigger guard.
Cosmetically in beautiful condition, with handling and wear marks appropriate for its age. There is a dent in the trigger guard where it looks like it bumped into something solid. Should be an easy fix.
All together a beautiful old English double barrel boxlock down to the last detail. Comes with an unusual little tool in the rear compartment (if you know what it is, let me know! I'm curious!).
