Ketland Brass Barrel .577 Caliber Flintlock Pistol
An original antique Ketland Brass Barrel .577 caliber Flintlock Fur Trade Pistol. These were specifically produced for the North American fur trade by William Ketland in England. The marking on the lock of 'W. Ketland & Co." dates it to 1740-1804, at which date they became simply 'Ketland & Co.'
A nice heavy smooth bore pistol with a slightly flared end giving it a bit of a blunderbuss kind of a look. The hammer holds at both half-cock and full-cock, and mechanically it functions very nicely! Marked on the top of the barrel with 'London' and two proof marks, as well as a decorative fish-like engraving. Simply ornamented on the back strap and the trigger guard.
The wood stock has some wear marks, but as a bonus it does also have a period correct ramrod!
All in all a fantastic black powder antique flintlock in wonderful condition for display or use!
