Hello, and welcome to the day you learned that giant painted fungus was a thing! I don't know anything about the person who did this spectacular piece of folk art other than the fact that I'm sure he was a fun guy.

It depicts Vancouver's Golden Jubilee and was, I imagine, painted in 1936 during the occasion. The centre has Vancouver BC in 1836 during its founding with a little shack and a horse drawn conveyance. On the left is an image of Vancouver City Hall only a year after it was moved there in 1935! On the right is simply "Marriott Home" with a little yellow house. Perhaps the artist's home? I can tell you I tried to Google "Marriott Home Vancouver BC" and I just got a whole lotta listings for hotels. You win some, you lose some.

At the end of the day though, this has to be one of the most unique pieces of folk art we've ever had in the shop! Beautiful in its simplicity and naiveté, and sitting proudly on its primitive wood mount.
