US Springfield Model 1880 Hunting Knife & Sheath
This belongs to the second run of approximately 9,000 to 10,000 Model 1880 knives that were made with brass guards. These were used heavily in western outposts for the purposes of skinning, clearing brush, and digging trenches.
The blade is in good condition with some mottling from age. Wood grip has some chunks out of the pommel. The brass hook on the scabbard is bent out of shape, and the leather is very damaged below where the brass hook is attached. It could use some stitching or repair to solidify it.
Serial number stamped on the crossguard.
A wonderful rare piece of history and a perfect addition to a collector of knives or militaria!
