RARE WWI Ross Mk II Bolt Action Rifle U.S. Marked with Matching Bayonet
A remarkably scarce Canadian Ross Mk II Bolt Action Rifle and Bayonet. Chambered in .303 British.
Bore is good condition with good rifling. There is wear and handling marks throughout which are to be expected in a firearm of this age and the distance it's travelled in its life. There is one screw missing from the front hooded sight on the right side.
Both the rifle and the bayonet are strongly U.S. marked; under the wrist on the rifle, and on the grips and the scabbard of the bayonet, marking this as one of the 20,000 Ross Rifles that were sent to the US in World War I for training purposes. The U.S. mark on the wrist of the rifle has been struck though, which was likely done when the rifle was repatriated back to Canada. Markings on the buttstock seem to indicate that it ended up with the 216th Bantams Battalion of the CEF, which was struck out when it was subsequently transferred to the 166th Queen's Own Rifles of Canada Battalion of the CEF.
With only 20,000 Ross Mk II's being sent to the U.S., it's fantastic to find one of these in such great condition and with a bayonet.
