RARE HMS Canada DA Marked Ross Mk III Rifle
When you think of rare military rifles, there's nothing quite like the DA Marked Ross Rifles.
With an estimated 250 still in circulation, these rifles were given to Great Britain by Canada in exchange for SMLEs. A certain number of those were issued to the Royal Marines, and of those a small number ended up on board the HMS Canada, a ship that had been ordered by Chile prior to the start of WWI but was instead bought by Britain in 1914 prior to delivery. At the war's end it was given to Chile along with all the Ross Rifles on board and their accompanying bayonets. The ship was renamed the Almirante Latorre, and all the rifles and bayonets on board were stamped with a DA number. This rifle is DA400.
Bore is fair with good rifling. Wood stocks have just the right amount of wear to show that this is a gun with a good deal of history. Marked on the stock with the standard Ross stamps, as well as what appears to be CEF 15, which would mark this as once having belonged to the 15th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, the 48th Highlanders of Canada. Matching DA marks on both the receiver and the bolt.
An outstanding chance to own a firearm that will only get more rare as the years go on. And if you happen to have the DA 400 bayonet but don't want the associated rifle, PLEASE reach out to us! We'd love to reunite them.
