Brown London Flintlock Box-Lock Pocket or Muff Pistol
A small Flintlock Box-Lock Pocket or Muff Pistol marked Brown London, with a screw-off barrel and fold-away trigger.
Hammer functions and both full and half cock. Safety is unusual in that it appears to function by inserting a pin through the edge of the flash pan and into a hole in the frizzen to prevent it from opening when the hammer is dropped. The pin on the safety is slightly bent probably due to the fact that this isn't the best idea for a safety in the history of firearms.
Bore measures at .48 cal. There are some hairline cracks near the trigger and about halfway down the bottom metal strap under the grip. Grip is delicately hand-checkered with an engraved metal cartouche at the back. The action and flash pan are engraved with scrolling foliate designs. Barrel is proof marked. The spring on the folding trigger is still strong. The screw-off barrel is currently not inclined to unscrew, and will likely need some gentle encouragement to be a thing that moves again.
A lovely little flintlock antique for the love of black powder arms!
